How to read your own statement

Three numbers, two minutes

1

Total volume

The gross amount of card sales you processed for the month. Usually near the top, labelled "total sales" or "gross volume".

2

Total fees

Everything deducted: discount rate, per-item fees, monthly fees, PCI, assessments, gateway, chargebacks. All of it, not just the discount line.

3

Divide

Fees ÷ volume × 100 = your effective rate. That single number is the only fair way to compare two processors.

Calculator questions

Take your monthly processing statement. Divide total fees charged by total card volume processed, then multiply by 100. That percentage is your effective rate — the only number that lets you compare providers honestly.

It is an estimate built from the pricing bands we see across thousands of statements. It cannot know your card mix, average ticket or industry risk profile. The free statement analysis gives you the exact number, usually within a few hours.

Because the quoted rate covers one interchange category. Rewards cards, business cards, keyed transactions and international cards all cost more, and monthly fees sit on top. The gap between quoted rate and effective rate is where most overpayment lives.

Across accounts we reprice, the average total-cost reduction is 22-31%. Businesses on tiered pricing or bundled flat rates with high volume typically save the most. Businesses already on tight interchange-plus sometimes save nothing — and we will tell you that rather than invent a number.
